NEW YORK FASHION FOR BASKETBALL PLAYERS
March 31, 2009 by Andy Socrates · Leave a Comment
It’s nice to rock your latest Jordan 1’s with a t-shirt and jeans, but if you live in New York City, you’ve got to upgrade your off-the-court gear with something more refined. Shop at some of the hippest places in the city and you might even find yourself running into a few NBA players or celebrities. The key is to mix and match some high-end and low-end products. It’s all about looking good and feeling good. Pair your kicks with some designer jeans and a nice casual dress shirt. Read more

In the blink of an eye, a once dominant sports franchise can fall into mediocrity. It happened to two teams this season, one from the Eastern Conference and one from the Western Conference. I’m talking, of course, about the Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns. It’s kind of sad actually, that up until just a year ago, these two teams were always mentioned as championship contenders. Age, changing systems, and departing point guards have all led to the rapid decline of these once-proud franchises. Seeing this, you really can’t give enough credit to the San Antonio Spurs organization, who has basically kept the same team for the past 10 years and somehow maintained their championship caliber level of play.
WHY THE MAVS ARE DOOMED TO FAIL
If the Dallas Mavericks continue to build around Dirk Nowitzki as their franchise player, they won’t ever be better than a barely competent team. Read more

Shaq Twittering
Shaq leads the Twitter movement, including sending tweets during the halftime break in the middle of a game between the Phoenix Suns and the Washington Wizards. Coaches may not understand Twitter, but they should allow players to do what they want during halftime. Some players listen to their iPods, others review game tape, so why not Twitter? Read more

WATCHMEN AND NBA SUPERSTARS OF THE 80′S

The Watchmen, set in the 80s Cold War era with rampant fears of nuclear devastation in the world, was recently adapted from a graphic novel form into a blockbuster movie. So it’s a perfect time to compare the main characters to some of the NBA superstars from that period. Read more

NCAA SWEET 16 PREVIEW

It’s been anything but sweet for those of us looking for a lot of upsets. Instead, we’ve got most of the top seeds - with the exception of Arizona - advancing and a lot of torn up brackets littering the office trash can. Read more
TOP NBA GAMES: 3/23 - 3/29

I just checked the NBA playoff standings and something immediately caught my eye. The Charlotte Bobcats are only a game behind the Chicago Bulls for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference! Much of their success this season must be attributed to coach Larry Brown, who is working his magic yet again by taking another underdog team and turning them into a playoff contender. This makes me wonder how truly dysfunctional a team the New York Knicks must have been that he was only able to muster up 23 wins despite a roster full of talent. What a waste.
WEEKLY ROUND UP: 3/13 - 3/20

It’s been a crazy week in the NBA with all the apocalypse and doomsday talk. The bottom line is that teams need money during this recession and we don’t know how bad it’s going to be come 2011. Until then, the fans need to enjoy all the great basketball that is being played as we get closer to the playoffs. The defending champions Boston Celtics look like they may be the No. 3 seed in the East, while the Phoenix Suns might not even make the playoffs in the elite West. Read more

SNEAKTIP THE GREATEST T-SHIRT
March 18, 2009 by Andy Socrates · Leave a Comment
Founded in 2006, Sneaktip is a Coney Island, N.Y.-based lifestyle brand inspired by sneaker culture. It serves the underground cult of sneakerheads who hunt for rare releases - a trend originally sparked by the sneaker phenomenon of Michael Jordan’s Nike Air Jordan line. Even with all the larger basketball brands out there, it’s nice to see more independent brands make their footprint in the industry.
You can show your love by supporting more independent brands with this t-shirt inspired by none other than His Airness and his famous free-throw-line dunk. For more products, you can check out the Sneaktip Spring 2009 look book here
MOBILE MARCH MADNESS

With the Madness delivering an overwhelming amount of college hoops action over the next few weeks, it can be intimidating keeping up with who’s winning, who’s getting upset, and who’s rolling through the tournament like a buzzsaw through a two by four. But a lot of the games happen while you’re in the office or class. Luckily, you’ve got everything you need to keep on top of things in your cellphone. Read more

Did you see the numbers LeBron James posted this past week? Three straight triple-doubles and a 51 point outburst against the Sacramento Kings. The guy is insane.
