Wednesday //
Houston Rockets at Utah Jazz. Two of the hottest teams in the league face off in a game that may determine playoff positioning. After a disappointing start to the season, both the Rockets and the Jazz have picked up their level of play as of late.
Just a few weeks ago, the Rockets appeared to be on their way out of the playoff picture with a mediocre record and news that Tracy McGrady would require season-ending surgery to repair his left knee. Since his absence, however, the Rockets have gone 6-1, leaving many to wonder if they’re actually a better team without having the uncertainty of MacGrady’s health status weighing on their minds. As for the Jazz, they’ve returned to full strength now that Carlos Boozer is back in the lineup, and it shows. They’re the hottest team in the league having won seven straight games and 10 out of their last 11. The Jazz are currently the seventh seed in the Western conference, but expect them to be in the hunt for one of the top 4 seeds as the post season approaches.
Friday //
Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics. No lengthy introduction required here. The Cavs have overtaken the Celtics for the best record in the Eastern Conference thanks to their continued steady play and the Celtics’ recent mini-slump (3-3 in their last six games). For the Celtics, it’s still too early to analyze the impact of adding Stephon Marbury to the lineup, but the 10-point loss to the Detroit Pistons at home on Sunday certainly won’t win over any critics.
Sunday //
Orlando Magic at Celtics. The Celtics will face another challenger to their title when they go up against the Magic on Sunday. Kevin Garnett should be close to returning given the original two to three week timetable, but there’s been no word yet on when he’ll actually be able to play again. The Magic have remained in the hunt for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, just three games behind the Cavaliers, but have lost the two previous meetings against the Celtics. Will Dwight Howard have a Superman-like performance to lead his team to victory, or will the Celtic green be too much Kryptonite for him to overcome?
