NBA ROUNDUP: 4/11 - 4/17

The NBA Playoffs are here and all the match-ups have been solidified. The biggest news is that Kevin Garnett will be out for playoffs. Teams in the East must be licking their lips smelling blood in the water. The Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James must feel that this year is their time to win a championship with the biggest threat in their conference out of the picture.
Kevin Garnett Is Out
It looks as though the Cleveland Cavaliers will be the Eastern Conference Champions this year as the Boston Celtics lose Kevin Garnett. Without him, the Celtics will not be able to compete against the Cavs or even the Orlando Magic. His knee injury appears to be a lot worse than previously reported.

Dwight Howard Too Nice?
Dwight Howard is an imposing figure but his attitude may be his bane. He is too nice as he smiles even when he dunks on opponents. During the slam dunk contest he let Nate Robinson dunk over him and seal his loss. The only way he can quiet his critics is if he can win a championship and show that his personality is not getting in the way of him leading the Orlando Magic to NBA dominance.

Ainge Suffers Heart Attack
Danny Ainge recently suffered a minor heart attack but is recovering nicely. Too bad the same can’t be said about his team, the Boston Celtics, With Garnett out for the playoffs, it looks as if it will be an early end to the Celtics season with Ainge looking to make some changes to bulk up the bench.

Walsh Gives Knicks Flexibility
It’s been years since the New York Knicks have been under the cap, but in 2010 Donnie Walsh will have achieved this feat that Isiah Thomas and Scott Layden failed to do. This puts the Knicks in a great position to score a top free agent come 2010, which may include LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh. Things are finally looking up for the league’s marquee franchise.

Best Players To Never Win MVP
Key players dominated their era like Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell and Michael Jordan. This prevented other great players like Elgin Baylor and Jerry West from winning an MVP trophy. It’s hard to believe that the NBA logo, Jerry West never won an MVP award despite being one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Tacos Irk LeBron James
Cleveland Cavaliers fans want their tacos instead of focusing on supporting the team. LeBron James voiced his displeasure when fans booed the team when the Cavs failed to score 100 points and win the fans some tacos. LeBron said that the team was focused on bringing the city a championship and not tacos. It’s a recession, fans will take what they can get.

Thomas Accepts FIU Job
Everyone deserves a fresh start, including Isiah Thomas. His five-year reign as New York Knicks GM was a disaster. The only bright spots during his tenure was that he drafted Nate Robinson and David Lee. As head coach of Florida International University, he has a chance to revive his career and move on from his failed past.

Kobe On A Mission
Kobe Bryant is looking for his 4th championship ring during this playoff but it has been a long road for him the past two years. He has played basketball non-stop including 82 games this season plus the Olympics and last year’s playoffs. It’s unbelievable how incredible his endurance and stamina is during this two year period. It’s going to be a fun ride watching him try to win a ring without Shaquille O’Neal.
