NBA ROUNDUP: 5/2 - 5/8
May 8, 2009 by Andy
The Houston Rockets proved to the Los Angeles Lakers that they should not be taken lightly after winning the first game of the series with hard-nosed defense and significant contributions from Yao Ming and Ron Artest. On the flip side, the Cleveland Cavaliers look to have an easy road to the Finals as they blew out the Atlanta Hawks in Game 1 and 2 in convincing fashion.
Lakers In Trouble?
Despite the Lakers making all the necessary adjustments in Game 2 to seal a victory, questions still remain whether the Lakers can hold leads as they blew another one. There is also uncertainty over whether Kobe Bryant can get to the basket to score his points. If the Lakers don’t shape up soon, they will be going fishing soon with the rest of the ousted teams from the playoffs.
Suspensions Doled Out
Rafer Alston had a flashback to his streetballing days when he slapped Eddie House on the head after a three pointer by the Celtic. Derek Fisher thought he was playing football when he tackled Luis Scola to the floor. Both Alston and Fisher were suspended one game for their foolish actions. The Magic suffer greatly with the loss of Alston, their main point guard, but the Lakers might fare better with a speedier guard to counteract the quickness of the Houston backcourt.

Nowitzki Drama Off The Court
Dirk Nowitzki is going through a tough time in his personal life just as the Mavs are down 0-2 to the Nuggets. He kicked his girlfriend out of his home, who was later arrested for violating her probation. In addition, urine tests reveal that she is pregnant. What a great way to distract the team. The Mavs will be swept in this series.
Wow. Just wow. Rajon Rondo has already recorded three triple-doubles this playoffs, tying Larry Bird. His play is just off the charts right now, and he will be the key in leading the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. After these playoffs are done, he won’t be the underrated point guard playing alongside the Big Three.
Ron Artest is one of the toughest guys in the leagues, but his quotes are ridiculous. He is accustomed to playing rough competitive basketball; so much so that one of his friends was killed in a pick-up game. True story. No lies. Kobe, watch out.
Jordan Shot On Ehlo, 20 Years Later
The Cavs are still haunted by “The Shot” by Michael Jordan, which eliminated them from the playoffs 20 years ago. LeBron and the current Cavs are on a mission to erase this painful memory.

Bynum Knee Not 100%
Andrew Bynum’s play so far in the playoffs has been a huge letdown. He’s at 85% but he’s playing like its 60%. He doesn’t look confident on the court and is just not himself yet. He better shape up before it’s too late for the Lakers this playoff season.
