NBA ROUNDUP: 6/20 - 6/26

It’s been a whirlwind week with multiple teams making drastic moves to catch up to the Los Angeles Lakers. The dream match-up in the Finals with Kobe Bryant playing against LeBron James and former teammate Shaquille O’Neal may become a reality come next season. It’s been a busy draft day and it seems the teams that benefited the most so far has been the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic. Expect more drastic moves this summer.

Jackson To Coach Part-time?
GM Mitch Kupchak says the idea of Phil Jackson is not happening. Hopefully the Zen Master’s health allows him to lead the Lakers to another championship run.

Looks like Michael Jordan’s son won’t try to live up to his dad’s legacy. Jeff Jordan gave up basketball on the Illinois squad to focus more on academics.

Celtics Shopping Rondo
Boston General Manager Danny Ainge is not happy with Rajon Rondo’s attitude and is shopping the point guard around the league. Ainge is rumored to have offered Ray Allen and Rondo to the Detroit Pistons for Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey. It’ll be surprising if a Rondo trade does go through this summer. Ainge needs to let the Celtics make another run with their core.

Steve Nash In Chinatown
Steve Nash along with a group of professional soccer and basketball players had a soccer showdown in New York’s Chinatown. Seems as though Grant Hill plays soccer with a team mentality like he plays basketball. It’s great for the fans to see this on an open field in the heart of Chinatown.

Knicks Acquired Lakers First Round Pick
The New York Knicks infused the Los Angeles Lakers with some well needed cash by buying the 29th pick for $3 million dollars. The Lakers are hopeful that they can re-sign key free agents Lamar Odom, Trevor Ariza and Shannon Brown to make another run towards a championship.

Brandon Jennings Goes Number 10
High school players may forfeit college and play overseas in the pros before joining the NBA thanks to the precedent set by Brandon Jennings who was drafted 10th by the Milwaukee Bucks. David Stern needs to eliminate the one and done rule and let players ready for the NBA to enter the draft.

The Orlando Magic look ready to move on without Hedo Turkoglu by acquiring Vince Carter from the New Jersey Nets. It’s a great opportunity for Vinsanity to win a championship and revive his career.

Hansbrough To Indiana
It’s amazing how one of the most accomplished players in the NCAA is not a top-five pick in the NBA and is being overlooked for players who have not done much yet. Tyler Hansbrough will be a solid player in the NBA and Larry Bird made a good choice by choosing a player with great character and work ethic.
