ADIDAS LA LAKERS NBA CHAMPIONS CARICATURE T-SHIRT
June 24, 2009 by Andy Socrates · 3 Comments
If you weren’t one of the roughly 90,000 screaming fans in the Coliseum for the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory parade, you can still celebrate with this awesome caricature Lakers T-shirt by Adidas. Worn by most of the players at the parade, this T-shirt includes all the players from the 2008-2009 team in caricature form and the statement “15-Time Champions.” It’s a great T-shirt reminiscent of all the old vintage Screen Stars Bulls champion shirts in the early 1990s.
SUPERMAN FACES THE A-BOMB IN NBA FINALS

It is universally acknowledged that any team in the hunt for an NBA championship needs a solid big man as the centerpiece of the team. In fact, the only NBA champions over the last 20 years without a dominating center or power forward were the Chicago Bulls (led by a pretty good player) and the Detroit Pistons (an amazingly balanced team). Besides those two exceptions, every other championship team has featured players such as Hakeem Olajuwan, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O’Neal, or Kevin Garnett as one of the top two players on the team. TOP NBA GAMES: 4/6 - 4/12

Last week I wrote about the decline of the Detroit Pistons. This week, I noticed that the Pistons and the Denver Nuggets have essentially switched places in their respective conferences’ playoff standings. The Pistons were the No. 2 seed heading into the playoffs a year ago while the Nuggets were eighth. Currently, the Nuggets are the two seed and the Pistons are eighth. So, is there anyone out there who still thinks that Allen Iverson is a better point guard than Chauncey Billups? Read more

OTHERS WEIGH IN ON LACK OF BIG MEN
February 12, 2009 by R.C. Cola · Leave a Comment
Fox Sports’ Randy Hill notes the lack of quality centers in the league. He notes that while a rare breed, big men are still necessary for a team to go all the way. In the last 18 championships, 11 have featured a future Hall of Famer at center. Only the Detroit Pistons and the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls won rings without a dominant big man. He also bemoans the lack of a strong post game with younger players, noting the New Orleans Hornets’ Tyson Chandler was content to dunk off of rebounds and block shots in his high school days. The piece follows Ball or Die’s own feature on the same issue.

REGGIE MILLER RIPS GARDEN FANS
February 4, 2009 by Andy Socrates · Leave a Comment
Reggie Miller, formerly of the Indiana Pacers, now sportscaster rips New York Knick fans for chanting “MVP” during Kobe Bryant’s 61 point outburst. Justin Terranova of the New York Post agrees with Miller’s comments. Back then, the New York Knicks were championship contenders but could never get over the hump because of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Times have changed for the Knicks, and the once storied franchise is trying to get its glitter back now with Mike D’Antoni’s system. There just hasn’t been much to cheer about the past few years and having Kobe bring some excitement into the Garden is not something Miller should rip Knick fans for wanting.
HORNETS WILL MISS PAUL
February 4, 2009 by R.C. Cola · Leave a Comment
The New Orleans Hornets without Chris Paul is like a car with no engine. Sure, it can still move, but you’ve got to do a lot of pushing, and likely get a slow roll. The Hornets will have to do just that as they face off against the Chicago Bulls tonight without Paul. Hornets Coach Byron Scott says he wants more ball movement and balanced scoring. Paul was leading the league in assists (10.9) and steals (2.7).
VINNY DEL NEGRO TO BE FIRED?

It’s been a disappointing season for the Chicago Bulls, currently with a 18-27 record, who are coached by first year head coach Vinny Del Negro. According to Bullsblogger, the underachieving Bulls need a fresh start. The Chicago Bulls have enormous talent on their team with players like Derrick Rose and Ben Gordon, but right now they are definitely unwatcha-bull.
DEL NEGRO TAKES BULL-RIDING TO A NEW LEVEL

You have to give it to Chicago Bulls Coach Vinny Del Negro - he’s been perpetually upbeat even as the drama mounts. The team is in a five-game slide, and tempermental guard Ben Gorden recently flared up over a fine, but Del Negro insists he is still happy with the gig. “I enjoy it all, the good times, the bad times, the frustrations,” Del Negro tells the Chicago Tribune. “Are you going to give in to the adversity, or is your character going to show?” If this job doesn’t work out, maybe he can make a living on the motivational speech circuit.
HAWKS’ BIBBY WILLS TEAM TO WIN

One a difference a big-time player will do for a team. Mike Bibby, who made countless huge shots on the Sacramento Kings, is doing the same now for the Atlanta Hawks. The latest came in the form of a challenge to his teammates when Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Bulls came down to the wire. Undermanned, having let a 13-point lead vanish, but poised to sweep the Bulls for the first time, his team responded, says the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Sekou Smith. Bibby chipped in 31 points, six assists and five steals in the win.

The Los Angeles Lakers were down by as many as 15 points, when they rallied in the second half to beat the New York Knicks. Kobe scored nine of his 28 points in the final 7 1/2 minutes. The Lakers must beat lesser teams by higher margins with more consistency to give them at good chance at beating the Chicago Bulls 72 game record.
