WILL JAMES MATCH KOBE’S MSG OUTPUT?

Right off the heels of Kobe Bryant’s 61-point performance at Madison Square Garden, LeBron James will take his shot at the record. But will he come out gunning? The smart would be to play within the flow of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ offense, but who knows when that competitive streak will flare up. James and Bryant are already jockeying for the title of best NBA player, and Kobe upped the ante on Monday. Will James call? Will the New York Knicks just stand there and take it? Probably.

This time it’s from New York Knicks executive Allan Houston, who could only watch in awe as Kobe Bryant ripped his team for a Madison Square Garden-record 61 points. “Unbelievable. It’s one of the greatest performances we’ll see here. It was tough for our guys to get a defensive rhythm and figure out what to do with him and he was going for the throat,” he tells the New York Post. This coming from a man who once scored 53 points against Kobe in the Staples Center.
KNICKS IN PLAYOFF HUNT, SERIOUSLY

Before the start of the season, would you have pegged the New York Knicks to be in contention for the playoffs? I doubt you’d get any takers beyond the most rabid - and delusional - fans. Yet here they are tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for the final playoff spot. The Knicks edged into the position with a win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night, aided by 20 fourth-quarter points from Nate Robinson. It’s the fifth win in six games for a suddenly hot team.
