NBA ROUNDUP: 7/4 - 7/10
July 10, 2009 by Andy Socrates · Leave a Comment
The Dallas Mavericks are making multiple roster moves to put themselves among the elite NBA teams by re-signing Jason Kidd and making a trade for Shawn Marion. The Mavs showed some toughness and resolve this year when they won 50 games and made it to the second round of the playoffs before falling to a scrappy Denver Nuggets squad. Owner Mark Cuban is not sitting on his laurels and is making bold moves to put his team back in contention. Read more
NBA ROUNDUP: 6/20 - 6/26

It’s been a whirlwind week with multiple teams making drastic moves to catch up to the Los Angeles Lakers. The dream match-up in the Finals with Kobe Bryant playing against LeBron James and former teammate Shaquille O’Neal may become a reality come next season. It’s been a busy draft day and it seems the teams that benefited the most so far has been the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic. Expect more drastic moves this summer. The Los Angeles Lakers like to win; they just don’t like to take the easy road. After letting a chance slip away to go up 3-0, the Lakers have redeemed themselves and find themselves in a position to close the series in Orlando on Sunday. Don’t expect to see that happen, since Kobe wants to win his first title without Shaq at home. Read more
NEW YORKERS REJOICE

There are a boatload of people bemoaning the lack of a Kobe Bryant-LeBron James match-up in the NBA Finals: the citizens of Cleveland, basketball fans, LeBron worshipers, and even David Stern. Outside of Orlando, there’s one city toasting the downfall of the King: New York. Read more
THE ORIGIN OF NBA NAMES

Los Angeles Lakers
I grew up hearing about Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar all the time, but the name always seemed obscure. What’s a Laker? What does it mean?. Los Angeles is not situated near a lake, unless you’re counting the Pacific Ocean. And even then, shouldn’t they be called the Oceaners? Or the Oceanics? Yeah, that definitely doesn’t have the same ring to it. Read more

I just checked the NBA playoff standings and something immediately caught my eye. The Charlotte Bobcats are only a game behind the Chicago Bulls for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference! Much of their success this season must be attributed to coach Larry Brown, who is working his magic yet again by taking another underdog team and turning them into a playoff contender. This makes me wonder how truly dysfunctional a team the New York Knicks must have been that he was only able to muster up 23 wins despite a roster full of talent. What a waste.
WEEKLY ROUND UP: 3/13 - 3/20

It’s been a crazy week in the NBA with all the apocalypse and doomsday talk. The bottom line is that teams need money during this recession and we don’t know how bad it’s going to be come 2011. Until then, the fans need to enjoy all the great basketball that is being played as we get closer to the playoffs. The defending champions Boston Celtics look like they may be the No. 3 seed in the East, while the Phoenix Suns might not even make the playoffs in the elite West. Read more

Back in the days, everyone had a Starter jacket emblazoned with logos from their favorite teams. For me, it was the New York Knicks. Now, you can relive some of that old magic with these custom-made duffel bags made from your favorite team Starter jacket.

KRYPTO-NATE’S WEAKNESS: LAWYERS
March 2, 2009 by R.C. Cola · Leave a Comment
I guess we’ve found Krypto-Nate’s Kryptonite: an army of lawyers from DC Comics who insist that Nate Robinson’s green-tinted shirt and reference infringed on its intellectual property, according to the New York Post. New York Knick Robinson first popularized the name when he donned a green jersey to beat “Superman” Dwight Howard in the Slam-Dunk Contest. The NBA had plans to sell it in its store in New York, but has since scrapped its plans.

GOOD RIDDENS
February 25, 2009 by R.C. Cola · Leave a Comment
Who is more free, Stephon Marbury or the New York Knicks? Marbury has the flexibility to move on to a time more willing to tolerate his attitude, while the Knicks are rid of his hefty contract and a black cloud in the locker room - not that he spent much time there this season anyway. It’s the end of an era of mediocrity and controversy.
MAVERICKS HAVE FAITH IN BAREA
February 25, 2009 by R.C. Cola · Leave a Comment
The Dallas Mavericks considered adding Stephon Marbury, but backed off after the improved play of their own guard, J.J. Barea. The guard has showed improved play, and owner Mark Cuban told the Dallas Morning News that he was pleased with the player. It’s not like the Mavs would’ve gotten Marbury, who is likely to head to Boston. I would consider it a blessing. Starbury is one headache they don’t need.

PHANTOM PLAYERS EAT UP KNICKS CAP ROOM
February 17, 2009 by Andy Socrates · Leave a Comment
The New York Knicks may not be able to sign a marquee player like LeBron James in 2010 because of the salary cap hovering around $60 million dollars. They need to figure out what to do with David Lee and Nate Robinson before their contracts expire. The NBA has a Phantom rule that states that no team can have less than 12 players signed to a contract at all times. This eats into the salary cap room and may hinder the Knicks plan to sign caliber All-Stars in 2010.

Atlanta Hawks at Portland Trailblazers. Expect this to be a great evenly matched game between two up-and-coming teams. After finishing in 10th place in the West and missing the playoffs last season, the Trailblazers (32-20) currently have the fourth-best record in the Western Conference. Read more
RUBBING SALT IN THOSE WOUNDS

New York Knicks fans can take little solace in Coach Mike D’Antoni’s admission that “he screwed up” and didn’t know the team had a foul to give in Sunday’s last-second loss to the Portland Trailblazers. D’Antoni apologized to the team on the plane ride to the Bay Area after the game, the New York Post reports. How about an apology to Knicks fans who tore out their hair over that loss?
KNICKS’ GALLINARI GETS HIS SHOT
February 9, 2009 by R.C. Cola · Leave a Comment
Rookie Danilo Gallinari got a nice opportunity with his first start for the New York Knicks on Sunday against the Portland Trailblazers. His play, however, was not so nice. He only spent 13:42 on the court, and he finished with a unspectacular six points on two early long-range buckets. Oh, and there was the huge rally in the second half that Gallinari was not a part of. Coach Mike D’Antoni says Gallinari could start again, but it doesn’t look so good after last night.
