The best news for the Los Angeles Lakers this week is that Lamar Odom will be back to help defend the championship. It was a long drawn out contract negotiation but now that things are finalized he will be a huge boon for the team. The Lakers are still the best team in the league and looks like they have a superb opportunity to repeat.

It’s been a whirlwind week with multiple teams making drastic moves to catch up to the Los Angeles Lakers. The dream match-up in the Finals with Kobe Bryant playing against LeBron James and former teammate Shaquille O’Neal may become a reality come next season. Here’s another reason to hate Isiah Thomas. Fox Sports’ Charley Rosen takes a look back at the history of the Continental Basketball League, which is nearing an end. The league helped developed the coaching talents of Phil Jackson and George Karl, as well as players John Starks and Henry Bibby. Rosen also takes a shot at Thomas, who bought the league for $9 million in hopes of selling it to the NBA for a quick profit. When the deal fell through, Thomas was no where to be found. His punishment for ruining an entire league? Manhandling one of the premier franchises in the NBA. New York Knicks fans are still bitter.

In an interview with Magic Johnson, Phil Jackson said he considered retirement in the summer of 2010. What does this mean for the Los Angeles Lakers? According to Forum Blue and Gold, the Lakers should not change up their system and continue with the triangle offense even if Jackson retires. The Lakers have built a great group of players that compliment the system and shouldn’t change what has been working for them.
