The best news for the Los Angeles Lakers this week is that Lamar Odom will be back to help defend the championship. It was a long drawn out contract negotiation but now that things are finalized he will be a huge boon for the team. The Lakers are still the best team in the league and looks like they have a superb opportunity to repeat.

Only during Jordan’s brief retirement did Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets win two titles. Among the greats that had their hearts broken by Jordan were Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller and Karl Malone. Read more

TOP NBA GAMES: 3/30 - 4/05

In the blink of an eye, a once dominant sports franchise can fall into mediocrity. It happened to two teams this season, one from the Eastern Conference and one from the Western Conference. I’m talking, of course, about the Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns. It’s kind of sad actually, that up until just a year ago, these two teams were always mentioned as championship contenders. Age, changing systems, and departing point guards have all led to the rapid decline of these once-proud franchises. Seeing this, you really can’t give enough credit to the San Antonio Spurs organization, who has basically kept the same team for the past 10 years and somehow maintained their championship caliber level of play.

Basketball has its hierarchy of players. You’ve got your legends, your superstars, stars, role players and scrubs. It’s like Hollywood, where you’ve got your A-listers, B-listers and barely registers. So if the NBA constellation were moved in line with the Hollywood stars, who would play which role? Remember when the Houston Rockets were the pre-season favorite to challenge the Los Angeles Lakers? Yeah, that seems like an eon ago now. Injuries have plagued the team, and once against Tracy McGrady finds himself too banged up to play. HoopsHype.com’s Mark Heisler says Houston fans shouldn’t be hopeful of a recovery, rather, they should see him as the biggest problem with the Rockets. His body is breaking down, and no one knows how bad it will get. As a result, he’s constantly “shutting down” a game or two to rest up. Now, his teammates are fuming at him, Heisler says. Even Yao Ming reportedly wants him traded.
